Highlights from first day of PLA Eastern Theater Command military exercises around Taiwan Island

      The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has begun patrols and military exercises in the maritime areas and airspace of the Taiwan Straits, off the northern and southern coasts of Taiwan Island, and to the island's east. Army long-range artillery rocket forces, NAVY destroyers and frigates, and Air Force fighter jets and bombers rapidly assembled in designated areas. Electronic warfare forces began reconnaissance, jamming, and suppression operations.
