Could the XBB variant fuel another COVID-19 wave?

      XBB is a new Omicron subvariant that has become the dominant strain in some countries due to its increased transmissibility and ability to pierce immunity. In the U.S., XBB.1.5 is estimated to account for more than 40 percent of the COVID-19 cases in the week ending December 31, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
