Chinese oil painter vividly depicts Kazakh people's life
In northwestern China, the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, Gansu Province, are a treasure-trove of the country's ancient fine arts. In the 1940s, the dazzling wall paintings in the caves inspired Dong Xiwen, an eminent Chinese oil painter. In his masterpiece "Kazakh Shepherdesses" created in 1948, Dong portrayed local ethnic people's life with artistic vocabulary distilled from the wall paintings of Dunhuang. Produced by China Media Group, the documentary series "Fine Arts in China" shares more about the stories of Dong Xiwen and his poetic presentation of the Kazakh life with his painting brush.
