China relaxes inbound COVID management, what's behind the changes?

China will cancel COVID-19 tests and quarantine for international arrivals, the country's National Health Commission (NHC) said in a statement on Monday. China is set to downgrade Class A management of COVID-19 to Class B from January 8, 2023. What changes will be brought by the new policies? CGTN interviewed Professor Wu Zhiwei, director of the Center for Public Health Research at the Medical School of Nanjing University. Professor Wu talks about how the new rules will encourage overseas travelers to come to China, promoting exchanges between Chinese and foreigners. China has gained valuable experience in fighting the epidemic for three years, and the new regulations are a timely adjustment of prevention and control policies.
